Offshore chains are heavy-duty chains used in marine environments to secure floating structures like oil rigs and buoys. Anchor chains, a subset of offshore chains, connect anchors to vessels, providing stability and holding power. Both are designed to withstand harsh conditions, including corrosion and high tension.

Offshore Chain and Anchor Chains are typically made from high-strength steel, with common grades including Grade 2, Grade 3, and R3, R4, R5 (for offshore mooring chains). Sizes range from 13 mm to over 200 mm in diameter. The material is usually carbon or alloy steel with high tensile strength (e.g., 490 MPa to 1,100 MPa). Viscosity is not applicable, but corrosion resistance is enhanced through galvanization or other coatings. Buoyancy is negligible due to the chain's density, but buoyancy modules can be attached. Chains are tested for breaking load, proof load, and fatigue resistance per ISO 1704 or other industry standards.
